Sometime after 1909: Looking south on North Main Street with the J. S. and Lottie Falconer home at 106 North Main in the foreground on the left and the Presbyterian Church on the southwest corner of Main and South Streets in the middle distance on the right. The picture was taken from the roof of the Bellmont Hotel at 112 North Main. The shingled area seen in the lower left corner of the picture is the snow covered roof of the train depot. Streets in town were rarely plowed and pretty much without any urgency. Sleighs and sleds pulled by horses were the order of the day. The spire of the Catholic Church can be seen in the far distance. Until a train came chuffing and rattling through, occasional winter bird calls were the only sounds to be heard in the little town nestled under the thick blanket of fresh, white snow.
