- Description
This well-known map of North America was used by European mapmakers as a basic source for the next half-century. It was the first to show the Great Lakes with reasonable accuracy and the first to name Lakes Ontario and Superior. Among Sanson's sources were the latest Jesuit Relations and the travels of Spanish missionaries in the Southwest. A somewhat nicer copy, with slightly different coloring, is in the Parker Map Collection.
