This map contains an early depiction of the interior of No. America by French cartographer Jean-Baptiste Bourguignon d'Anville; it is sometimes cataloged under the name of its Italian publisher, Paolo Santini. The map extends from the Missouri River basin on the Plains eastward to the Ohio Valley and western Pennsylvania, showing natural features, homelands of American Indian nations, and locations of French forts.
