This folder contains correspondence, both personal and professional, received and sent by Increase Allen Lapham in 1851. The correspondence covers a variety of Lapham's interests and pursuits, including the geology and surveying of Wisconsin, weather tracking, antiquities, and burial mounds. The folder includes several letters from publishers responding to Lapham's request for lists of books for purchase to include in Wisconsin public school libraries, as well as proposed rules for school libraries. Also included in the folder are several letters negotiating price and delivery of scientific instruments, and of minerals to the University of Wisconsin, Beloit College, and Carroll College.
