- Description
Kuijun Sun born in Jiangsu, China, specialized in poems and calligraphy. He was well-known for his poems and his skinny- golden-style calligraphic writing. In 1902, Sun and Zhihui Wu (1864-1953) studied in Japan. They were involved in a protest and it led to their deportation. After returning to China, Sun served as a senior secretary in the ministry of education. He continued studying calligraphy and devoted himself to it after his retirement.
Tongchuan Yu (1668-?) mentioned: “During the period of Emperor Ming Xianzong and Ming Xiaozong, people who got the first place in the imperial examination usually became well-known scholars. Ao Wang (1450-1524), Hetan Qian (1461—1504) and Qi Dong (1487-1546 ) were the most productive scholars. Wang’s and Qian’s writing patterns are elegant and grandiose. Dong’s style is recognized as innovative and virtuous. Wang’s and Qian’s style, which is viewed as a unique writing style, was glorified by Ching-chuan Tang (1507-1560) and was maintained until the end of the Ming dynasty. On the contrary, no one continued Dong’s style after his death."
