- Description
Door County Wisconsin is a booklet written around 1915 to explain Door County's value as a tourism destination, as well as to inform visitors about transportation schedules (railroad, car, and boat), local services (hospitals, fisheries, and postal), notable companies (newspapers, canneries, stone quarries, etc.), and public goods (light house, parks, preserves, etc.). The area's attractions are mentioned throughout, noting its durable natural beauty and, in one case, likening it to the coast of Maine. Specific communities such as Sturgeon Bay, Egg Harbor, Washington Island, Chambers Island and more are mentioned. Farms and summer homes are noted near the end, stating the owner, total size, and livestock of each. The end of the booklet contains mileage information for each community in Door County.
