- Description
When the United States entered the war against Germany and its allies, many patriotic organizations sprang up, promoting support of the war and questioning the loyalty and motives of any citizens seen as lacking in enthusiasm for the conflict. In Wisconsin the state's large German population became a focus of suspicion and distrust, as shown by this map published by the Wisconsin Loyalty League in the "New York Sun" in 1918.
