Republican
Born April 1, 1841 in Berlin. Came to Milwaukee in 1855. Lawyer and Republican. President of the school board 1871to 1873, assemblyman 1872, city attorney 1873 to 1878. Elected mayor in 1884 and 1886. Judge of the municipal court 1890 to 1895. Judge of the criminal court 1895 to 1900. County judge 1900 to 1902. Ten years on state board of normal regents, 20 years as court commissioner. Bay View riots occurred during his second administration. For several years he was oldest living member of the Milwaukee Bar Association. Died in June 4, 1923, at the age of 82.
