Postcard, divided notes: Divided back indicates 1907 or after. Stamp box indicates 1908-1910. Pier Opera House Interview of Helen Toms by Twylah Kepler in 1983. The Pier Opera House was located overhead of what is now (1983) the Gamble Store at the corner of Court and Main Streets on the west corner (across from the Richland County Bank). The seating in the Opera House was stationary, similar to the auditorium except the seats were not padded or upholstered. Most events of importance such as graduations, celebrations, lyceums, etc., were held in the Opera House until the auditorium was built (1912). Pier sold out to Coffland who used the building for a clothing store, turning the overhead part of the store into a men’s clothing department. Mr. Qualy sold hats there. Henry Northrup was the general manager and bookkeeper. Coffland added an annex to the building which became a furniture department. When Coffland died, the building was sold to Sonneson who continued to operate a clothing s
