- Description
This commercial vernacular structure was built in 1887 for Thomas R. Young after a fire destroyed a wooden building on this site in 1886. The first occupants of the new building were the post office, E. Sprague's store, Mrs. Hamilton's Millinery and the Granger's Hall. Several businesses have occupied the building since that time. The structure is a pivotal building in the Main Street Historic District. At the time of the survey, Gavin Brothers occupied the building.
The Reedsburg Historic Survey was conducted from October 1983 through April 1984 by the City of Reedsburg and community volunteers. The project was funded, in part, by a National Park Service and U. S. Department of the Interior grant, administered by the Historic Preservation Division of the State Historical Society of WisconsinThe surveys and accompanying photographs, housed at the Reedsburg Public Library, were compiled to determine National Register of Historic Places eligibility.
