- Description
This folder contains WATS line summaries, presumably from the Atlanta SNCC office, and cover all states in which volunteers were working during August of 1965. Reports discuss beatings, bombings and threats made to civil rights workers in the South. Registration days are widely reported, specifically mentioning the aid of federal registrars in the counties. Many reports mention the boycotts of schools and business for unfair segregation or hiring practices. Reports also discuss the murder of Fred Lee Thomas in Greenwood as well as the murders of other black men that were officially reported as accidents. Of national note is Congressman William Fitts Ryan plan to bring the Congressional Challenge to the floor of the House of Representatives.
