- Description
A Century of Progress International Exposition was held in 1933-1934 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the incorporation of Chicago. Intended as a showcase for industrial and scientific progress, the exposition consisted of exhibits that miniaturized or replicated other countries, historical events, or industrial processes. The Kohler Company commissioned artists from the Atelier of the Mural Painters' Society in New York to paint murals on the east face of the company's exhibit. The murals highlighted the materials gathered from around the world that go into each Kohler product. This brochure reproduces the murals, provides a history of the company, and reveals how leaders wanted to represent that company on the eve of the famous 1934 Kohler strike
