- Description
Map of Maine, showing a few cities, harbors, hills, mountains, lakes, and rivers. A road runs from Pownalboro south to Portsmouth harbor, and the boundary line between the United States and British territories is clearly labeled. Nearly all of the settlements sit along the southern coast. However, one interesting feature appears at the western end of a chain of mountains. It is labeled "car. place" or carrying place; a portage between two unnamed rivers.
