- Description
This folder contains correspondence, primarily professional, sent and received by Increase Allen Lapham in 1862. The correspondence covers a variety of Lapham's interests and pursuits; including botany, geology, meteorology, and agriculture. In several letters here, Lapham seeks to continue the Wisconsin Geological Survey, despite the Civil War. As in many of Lapham's correspondences, the Civil War is only tangentially mentioned, if at all, but this folder contains a couple of letters from the front, including one from Charles Hubbard, a Union Soldier, to Ann Marie Alcott Lapham about his Christmas on the front. Also included in this folder: "Geological Action has its Origin Mainly in Meteorological Causes"; "Effects of Meteorological Phenomenon on Surfaces"; and "Churches in Wisconsin"; "Note by Increase Allen Lapham on a Meteor Sighting."
