Front Picture Description: Black and white group family portrait of a father, child and mother. Richard Wade Hampton was born 2 Aug 1862 at Fancy Creek to Richard Wade Hampton and Sarah E. Collins Hampton. He married Ella Jane Ray 26 Feb 1888. After farming for many years, he kept Dick Hampton’s Livery Stable at 204 North Jefferson Street, the same location that later became Richland Machine Works in Richland Center. In the livery business, he kept as many as 26 horses along with buggies and surries. After automobiles came into existence, he built the Cities Service filling station in 1923, running it into the 1930’s. This is said to have been the first filling station in Richland Center. His wife, Ella, having died in 1928, Richard married Josephine Stittleburg Liscum on 24 Aug 1932. He died 4 May 1944 at his house on north Main street and is buried in the Richland Center cemetery. Grace M. Hampton was born 23 Aug 1891 to Richard Wade Hampton and Ella Jane Ray Hampton. She graduated
