- Description
This commercial vernacular structure was built in 1878 by William Dierks. Dierks bought Paul Bishop's lot after the 1877 fire that destroyed all but one building on Main Street between North Park Street and North Walnut Street. The structure was built to house his own furniture store. In 1878 he sold the block to the furniture firm of Barker & Chandler. Dierks then bought into the Reedsburg Brewery. The building is architecturally significant and is a pivotal property of the Main Street Commercial Historic District. At the time of the survey, Marv's Sports Center occupied the space.
The Reedsburg Historic Survey was conducted from October 1983 through April 1984 by the City of Reedsburg and community volunteers. The project was funded, in part, by a National Park Service and U. S. Department of the Interior grant, administered by the Historic Preservation Division of the State Historical Society of Wisconsin. The surveys and accompanying photographs, housed at the Reedsburg Public Library, were compiled to determine National Register of Historic Places eligibility.
