- Description
The village headman (phoban) of the Nyaheun village of Keokhunmeung (XB 7555), Mr. Souane, squats drinking rice wine ("lao hai") from a bamboo tube inside his house. He wears a traditional Nyaheun red and white beaded necklace. Formerly, most Nyaheun men wore these necklaces, but now few wear them and earrings (seen not very clearly on the headman). Similarly, traditional loincloth clothing has been replaced by military fatigues or western pants and shirts, as on the headman here.
