- Description
Almost all of the documents in this folder come from 1965. Their focus broadens from Mississippi to Alabama, Louisiana, and Arkansas, and one can see through them the rise of new student-led groups, such as SDS, and new concerns, such as apartheid in South Africa. In this folder, leaders of the major civil rights organizations provide analyses of various voting rights bills before Congress in 1965. There are press releases and descriptions of violence on the 1965 March to Montgomery. There are descriptions of 1965 plans for SNCC's summer program in the South. Incident summaries from Sunflower County, Mississippi, from June 1964-May 1965, from the state of Mississippi from March 2-11 and from June 14-20, 1965, from the state of Arkansas from March 1965, and from Bogalusa, Louisiana from April 1965 are also here. There's a summary of the main points of a court case, USA v. Cecil C. Campbell and the State of Mississippi as well as a printed brochure: "They Need Our Help" [to register to
