This folder mostly contains the correspondence of Increase Allen Lapham from June to December in 1865. Also included in this folder are several letters written to Increase Lapham's daughter, Julia Alcott Lapham. As a scientist, Increase Lapham was in frequent communication with colleagues both near and far. Many of the letters in this folder between Lapham and his colleagues discuss the sharing or purchase of plant or animal specimens for display or research. Also in this folder are several letters discussing mining in Wisconsin, both for coal and lead. One item of interest is a business proposal for the Empire Coal Company.
