This folder includes interview transcriptions--primarily about the importance of the Freedom Vote as a protest and organizing tactic--with Bob Moses (1963); Aaron Henry (1965); Allard Lowenstein (1965); Jesse Harris (1965); Bill Higgs (1965); Marion Barry, Jr. (1965), James Forman (1965), Tim Jenkins (1965), Rev. R.L.T. "Bob" Smith (1965), and Howard Zinn (1965). Interestingly, after so much talk about the importance of the Freedom Vote as a tool to raise political and grassroots consciousness in Mississippi, Howard Zinn says, "I don't think the nation ever really knew about the freedom vote." In addition, Jesse Harris gives examples of the U.S. Justice's Department's collusion with the Mississippi power structure against civil rights workers in voter registration issues. Bill Higgs, a white lawyer, talks about being run out of the state of Mississippi. Marion Barry talks about COFO's origins.
