- Description
This folder contains correspondence, both personal and professional, received and sent by Increase Allen Lapham in 1852. The correspondence covers a variety of Lapham's interests and pursuits; including plants, weather, shells, requests for books, and Wisconsin antiquities and geology. Also included are letters to Lapham's wife, Ann Alcott Lapham, regarding his travels through Wisconsin. Several letters exchanged with Samuel F. Haven of the American Antiquarian Society discuss Lapham's work surveying the antiquities of Wisconsin, including Lapham's summary of pages written, woodcuts, plates, drawings, and negotiating for publication and payment. An exchange of note is Lapham's request for a replacement membership certificate from The Royal Society of Northern Antiquities with his first name corrected from "Ingram" to "Increase". Also included in the folder are two letters exchanged between Ann Lapham and Sarah Gould discussing high school and teacher education in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
