- Description
Beech was a white minister from St. Paul, Minnesota, who worked alongside COFO with the National Council of Churches' Delta Ministry from 1963 to about 1968. His 1964-1965 correspondence includes his own motivations for civil rights work, his encounters with segregation, his dismay at Catholic bishops' pulling priests out of Mississippi civil rights work, his white neighbors' treatment of him and his family, his expenses, many thank you notes for donations received, his objections to a syndicated column about himself by Drew Pearson, and his observations of COFO.
