Although the sign identifies this as a state hospital, the "OB" in the slide title indicates that the Filipino group Operation Brotherhood was involved as well. Although now almost totally forgotten the impact of Operation Brotherhood was extremely important in bolstering the limited and fragmented Lao health system that existed at that time. Even today (2005) Laos remains a poor country dependent on a complex mix of foreign assistance programs, although now the U.S. role is rather limited.
