This manuscript map of Dane County, Wisconsin, from the first half of the 19th century shows the township and range grid, sections, cities and villages both exisiting and planned, lakes and rivers, wetlands, and prairies. The Four Lakes are identified as First, Second, Third, and Fourth lakes and the Yahara River is identified as the River of the 4 Lakes.
