Diane got started with this quilt because of the Sun Prairie Quilt show challenge kit which the theme Celebrate. The kit included dark patterned fabric and each person had to make a 24 inch square quilt. Diane decided she wanted to celebrate spring so she made a large 3D daffodil and used the given fabric for the background. She had made some 3 dimensional flowers before but nothing on this scale. She used hand-dyed yellow fabric for the daffodil. She created the pattern for the flower by blowing up a picture of a daffodil and then created each of the 5 petals as individual pieces, quilting them separately before assembling the whole flower. Once the daffodil was complete, she attached the flower to the background. She embellished the center of the daffodil with clear jewels. She is happy because this is the first quilt that worked exactly as she envisioned. Usually as she works a quilt, the concept changes.
