- Description
This map shows forts, missions, villages and cities, rivers and portages, and boundaries of the Spanish, English, and French territories, marking the largest portion of America and Canada as French. Berlin includes several inaccurate and mythological features in the west that appear in many maps during the 18th century, much of which was based on misinterpretations of Cree and Assiniboine maps and descriptions. These features include the 'Mer de L'Ouest' (Western Sea), and 'Montagne de Pierre Brillante' (Mountain of Bright Stone). He includes several notes on these and other features, such as with the River des Mantons where he indicates that this river might also connect to the lower Missouri The cartouche is decorated with the French royal crest.
