Newspaper Clipping Description: Black and white group portrait of 12 men in band uniforms with their musical insturments. Front Print: “REPUBLICAN OBSERVER, Richland Center, Wis., Thursday, March 31, 1960, Page 11, Ash Creek Band, Front row, left to right: Branson Ruse, George Miller, Henry Ewing, Shirley Ruse, Richard Burwitz. Back row, left to right: Fred Groth, Ed Casey, Jim Roth, Cyrus Mayfield, Ed Turner, Jim Pauls and Billie Fessel. The first Ash Creek band was organized by a minister from Germany. This picture was taken close to 70 years ago by Frank Leonard at a presidential rally, “Gold Coinage and Free Silver”. Bryan and McKinley were the candidates. We are indebted to Branson Ruse for the photo. His first instructor was Phil Schlafer and his last was Henry Ewing. We can still use any old pictures you may have, so don’t forget to bring them in to the Republican Observer office. They will be returned to you undamaged.” Front Writing: “a”.
