This photograph shows N Plankinton Ave from W Wells St. Tall, brick buildings line both sides of the street. Several businesses are visible, including a store called Goldfish, and a store that sells uniforms.
Above: Looking north along North Plankinton avenue from West Wells street, April 1962, and of which according to historian J. S. Buck, that where the sidewalk now is, (very likely the one on the east side of the street), during the years 1836-1838, at that time a plank walk supported by crotched stakes driven into the mud, having cross pieces to support the planks, (a very narrow walk), around two feet above the water, and according to historian R. A. Koss this walk extended from the Spring street ferry, (now Wisconsin avenue bridge), up Chesnut street, now West Juneau avenue, and was in use up to the year 1838, (for a brief time only). This plank walk very likely passed in front of the place shown photo below, built in 1836, (rebuilt in 1894), and when first built, then as a residence it very likely stood or rested on posts above the water, as did several other buildings at that time according to J. S. Buck, one of which was a warehouse built by Solomon Juneau. The location of the bui
