- Description
This 1937 edition of the 1854 Milwaukee bird's-eye by George Robertson was published for the 100th anniverary of the Milwaukee Sentinel. As explained in its text, newspaper staff spent more than a month working with historians to identify nearly 70 structures. These important buildings are numbered in a silhouette drawing below the main image, with copy identifying each one by use and location in both 1853 and 1937. This edition is consequently a very rich source of information on Milwaukee as it blossomed into a major Midwestern city in the mid-19th century.
