- Description
This photographic print, taken by a Portage photographer around the turn of the twentieth century, is mounted on matboard and features the residence of then-owner, Dr. T.B. Fletcher. The side gabled ell was constructed ca. 1860 on West Franklin Street. It features some details that suggest Gothic Revival style. The facade of the building suggests the possibility of later decoration in Tudor Revival. This includes the vertical timbering over the frame, groupings of multi-pane rectangular windows, and prominent front facing cross gale with a steeply pitched roof. According to census information (1905), Taylor B. Fletcher was born in March of 1847 in Maine. He wed Hannah, born 1849, who was originally from New York in 1877. They had two children--Mabel, born September 1868 and John P., born 1884. The annotation, located at the bottom left-hand corner of the object, lists the 1952 resident of this dwelling as H. Metzger.
