This photographic print, taken by a Portage photographer around the turn of the twentieth century, is mounted on matboard and features the residence of then-owner, Mrs. A.C. Flanders. The two-story residence that was built ca. 1855 features original, Gothic architectural features with an Italianate addition that constructed by Flanders ca. 1872. The house is a cream brick that consists of an Italianate block and a rear Gothic Revival ell. The Italianate section of the house is a square block with a hipped roof, wide overhanging eaves and brackets, and tall and narrow windows with bracketed hood moldings. The rear Gothic Revival section of the house has a steeply pitched roof with multiple gables. Flanders owned this residence between 1872 and 1904. According to Tales of Old Portage, Arthur C. Flanders was the station agent for the Chicago, Milwaukee, and St. Paul Railroad in the late 19th century. He was also a member of the Grand National Curling Club, as curling was a very popular
