View up E.Wisconsin Ave. (then Wisconsin St.) looking east from across the Milwaukee River. Period is between 1892 and 1890. Note the iron swing bridge, which replaces the curved-arch wooden swing bridge in 1892, and the horse-drawn streetcars which were electrified in 1890. Note also the old style telephone poles that line the street. Telephone service arrived in Milwaukee beginning in the late 1870s.
