- Description
This photographic print, taken by a local Portage photographer in 1905, is mounted on matboard and it features the gathering of individuals at the Baptist Parsonage at 302 East Conant Street. The Parsonage was constructed in 1904 and it features Colonial Revival architectural detailing. According to an article in the Tales of Old Portage collection by Dorothy McCarthy, Mrs. JH Rogers, wife of Josiah Rogers, was known throughout Portage as a civic leader and proponent of good conservation practices. She was a member of the Senior Gossip Club, a group dedicated to Portage civic interests. Along with the Senior Gossip Club, the Junior Golden Gossips and the Study Club raised funds to build the ornamental wall and gateway in Pauquette Park. This photograph, taken in June of 1905, shows a group
