According to the Lao writing on the sign, this ice cream stand is a branch of a business belonging to a Vietnamese named Bac My Chau. "Bac" is the Vietnamese word for uncle. In Southeast Asia, kinship terms are commonly used to refer respectfully to people who are not strictly blood kin.
