- Description
One of the earliest obtainable maps to accurately (for its time) depict the Americas, this map shows more decorative than descriptive features. A few rivers, regions, and settlements are labeled, including an early reference to Florida. Gastaldi depicts the interior of both North and South America as entirely mountainous, but he did not speculate on the northern part of North America, not even enough to label it 'terra incognita' to designate it as land rather than sea. The few cities labeled are represented by simple illustrations of buildings. Illustrated waves cover the oceans, and depictions of ships and sea monsters further decorate them.
