Back Print: Richland County History Room Back Writing: Margaret Scott Accompanying paper Print: Built: 1856, Location Coffinberry Point (in Richland City), U. S. Census, 1860-two teachers, 35 students, Built by Reverend John Silsby, Lasted four years, SILSBY ACADEMY A little before 1860 Reverend Silsby moved the school to Spring Green by teams and placed it “on the hill.” He conducted it there until he joined the union army. His successor was J. H. Terry. When the first high school was erected, the Silsby Academy became the residence of the Terry family. Later it was used for the sixth grade. The children in the picture were member of the fourth grade with Mary Evans the teacher. The building was razed in 1907 and a new high school built on the site.
