- Description
The early 1850s were boom years for Madison. This map, published by eastern journalist Horace Greeley, praises the village's advantages and prospects and prominently features the activities of local developer Leonard Farwell. The inset railroad map represents more hopes than actual trackage, although the first railroad train reached Madison in May 1854.
