Charles Springer's Cigar and Tobacco Store occupied this space in the late 1890's and early 1900's. The building was constructed in 1866 by Richard Penhallegan. In this photograph, a placard in the window advertises a Foot Ball game scheduled for Saturday, November 24, '94.The "National Democrat" (a Mineral Point newspaper), Sept. 1, 1866: "The store of Richard Penahallegan is nearly completed. Soon we shall see the smiling countenance of its owner - not at his old shanty - but at his new and commodious rock store."This building is included in the Wisconsin Architecture and History Inventory under record number 59702.
