Front Picture Description: Color pastel painting of 3 buildings along with a fenced field of cornshocks in the foreground. There are hills and trees in the background. This was located in section35 & 36 in Bloom Twp. Front Print: The Old County Farm Bloom Township The county “poor farm” was established in 1877 after years of bickering and delays in the Richland County Board. Its purpose was to provide a home for the insane, the poverty stricken, and the orphans after the Civil War. The idea was that the residents would raise enough on the farm to provide for their own keep, with county residents making up the difference through taxes. “if the picture looks like it was painted by a committee, it is true. I made the trees to conform with information from Wencil Stanek. The shape of the house came from suggestions of Dewey Rinehart. The shape of the barn and the two big porches came from Bessie Parsons, who with her husband Will went there to work as newly weds. The cupolas were remembere
