- Description
View of the front and side facades of a three story building topped with a decorative parapet. On the left is a sign for the Totem Bowl, a local bowling alley. This building was Wilmarth Block No. 3 and had apartments on the second and third floors. To the left, down 2nd Street, Angvick Furniture Company storefront is visible. Cars are parked along the main street and 8th Avenue West on the right.
Built by 1901, the Wilmarth Block No. 3 had the Totem Bowl, a bowling alley, in business at the address of 801 West 2nd Street from 1960 to 1967. On June 3, 1967 the Angvick fire consumed nearly one full block, destroying 4 ½ buildings and starting fires along Ashland’s lakefront. Due to high winds a waste fire started the Angvick Furniture Company building, the Angvick’s warehouse, the Totem Bowl and the attic of a house on fire.
