- Description
This photographic print, taken by a Portage photographer around the turn of the twentieth century, is mounted on matboard and features the home of then-owner, Mrs. Dr. Dent. The home, once located on West Conant Street, was presumably constructed mid-nineteenth century. It is a gabled ell residence with simple clapboard construction. This style of home was popular in Portage because of its simple construction. The dwelling was given character with the wooden bargeboard frieze, turned porch columns, and Gothic carved frieze that features a quatrefoil pattern. The annotation, located at the bottom left-hand corner of the object, lists that the residence was razed sometime before 1952, as the lot was then the site of the Masonic Temple.
