Isaac Lee was authorized by Congress in 1820 to investigate the claims of long-time French residents to lands in Wisconsin. He visited Prairie du Chien and Green Bay that same year, and his report was printed in 1828 by the U.S. government, with detailed land-ownership maps and much eyewitness testimony from residents.
