This photograph print, taken by a local Portage photographer near the turn of the twentieth century, is mounted on matboard and features the residence of then-owner, J.H. Rogers. Though the residence is greatly concealed by trees, it is a minimally ornamented Second Empire construction. The details of this style include the mansard roof with multiple window dormers, cornices on roofline, French doors, patterned slate on roof, and classical pediments. Josiah H. In 1868, Rogers was admitted to the bar and he opened an office for law practice in Portage in 1871.
