This photograph shows the corner of W Wisconsin Ave and N 5th St, as it appeared in 1907. The visible businesses are, from left to right, the Henry Gattmann Company, Mrs. Spear's News Depot (arrow "A"), and Mrs. Amalia Gfroner Hair Goods (arrow "B"). Grand Avenue is a brick road.
Upper: The southeast corner of Grand Avenue and Fifth Street as it appeared during September 1907, shows old wood frame store buildings and some of the old residences which were located along Fifth street in those days, as show at the right. Brick pavement at that time on Grand avenue. The sign on wall upper left, that of Henry Gattmann Company, located there from about 1906 to 1909, a short time only, as Gattmann died July 3, 1909, aged 44. Arrow (A) points to the store of Mrs. Harriet Spearsas (news depot), located there for quite a number of years. Arrow (B) store of Mrs. Amelia Gfrorner, (hair goods) also there for quite a number of years. Signs at corner store, "ice cream, five and ten cents", also next door "suits or overcoats pressed fourty cents" "pants pressed ten cents". Advertising posters feature Alhambra, Gayety and Bijou theatre's, shown along side of corner store, and of which the Bijou features (Bedford's Hope), September 22, 1907.
