- Description
This map of North America shows the boundaries of European claims at the end of the French and Indian War. The British colonies extend to the Mississippi. A few cities, rivers, and lakes are labeled, and the map includes the discoveries of Martin d' Anguilar on the north west coast. The map uses sinusoidal projection to show the curvature of the earth and accurate distances. The title cartouche features a scene of an alligator resting on top of a waterfall, two Native American men hunting with clubs, and a Native woman breastfeeding an infant while a man watches over her. Two birds fly over the waterfall, and a bear or dog sits in the tree above the two men.
