- Description
Much of the Wisconsin Central's right of way was built over land obtained through a federal land grant, the only such grant in Wisconsin. This map from an 1898 handbook of Wisconsin Central Railroad lands shows the railroad's lines in Wisconsin, northern Illinois, eastern Minnesota, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The area of the railroad's land grant lands along the line from Colby north to Ashland is shaded in red.
