The materials in the three Staughton Lynd folders, describing situations in various parts of the South and the North, show that civil rights issues went far beyond Mississippi. Many official SNCC documents and SDS reports are also included. There are a 1963 plea by Robert Moses that the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights hold hearings in Mississippi; an article about the murder of William Moore; "Louisiana [Voter Registration] Story 1963" by James Farmer; "The Birth of a Voter" [in Louisiana]; "Danville, Virginia" [protests]; "Letter from Birmingham [Alabama] City Jail" by Martin Luther King, Jr.; 1963 "Prospectus for the Civil Rights Movement of the Northern Student Movement Coordinating Committee"; "From Operation Freedom: Notes on the Delta Area of Mississippi" (1963) by Jack McKart; incident summary from Greenwood, Mississippi; first draft of a report on LeFlore County, Mississippi; "Selected Data on Social and Economic Characteristics of the Southern States"; 1963 list of SNCC field
