E Wisconsin Ave (then known as Wisconsin St) looking east toward the intersection with Jefferson St, probably early 20th century. The Pfister Hotel is at left. The arch was known as the Carnival Arch, erected in 1898 as part of a celebration of Wisconsin's 50 years of statehood.
