This photographic print, taken by a Portage photographer around the turn of the twentieth century, is mounted on matboard and features the residence of then-owner, Charles Mohr, Jr. This residence, once located on Edgewater Street was built during the nineteenth century. It was a front gabled ell form construction in an L-shape floor plan. The columned portico with Ionic order capitals and simple banister rail suggest attention to Colonial Revival architectural style. While, the pointed window hood moldings are reminiscent of Italianate style. The home was destroyed in a fire in the 1940s and a new residence has since been built in its place. Charles Mohr, Jr., the resident of the dwelling at the time of the photograph, was born in New York but relocated to Columbia County with his family in 1857. His family engaged in farming outside of Portage, but he established permanent residency in Portage in 1881. He was engaged in the general mercantile business at Portage in partnership with
