- Description
Maurine's quilt is based on a pattern by Patti Hellenbrand of Village Creek Quilts, the local quilt shop. It's called Scenic Lodi Valley. Maurine was born and raised in Lodi but moved away for a time. When she moved back to Lodi, she got involved in a quilting club at church called the Piecemakers. Through these classes, she learned how to quilt. They also have a yearly retreat up north at Pine Lake every winter where they quilt and eat and enjoy each others company despite the snowy weather and the occasional blizzard. Sometimes the classes were shop hops. Other members bought stacks of fabric, Maurine liked to buy fat quarters. All of the materials used in the quilt represent the different aspects of the Lodi area and Wisconsin in general. She used blue for the skies and valley, fabric with pine trees and autumn leaves for all the trees in Lodi. She also used flower fabrics, jonquils and daffodils to represent Doc Bohlman's farm, lilacs for all the old farmsteads in the state because
